Sportster SuperLow XL883L (2013): The Lowest, Most Approachable Sportster 883
Harley sells the 2013 SuperLow as an easy-handling bike with a Sportster tank, longer-travel rear suspension, a low seat and a comfortable cockpit. The deeply cushioned bucket seat sits at 25.5 inches (laden), with an easy-reach handlebar and a narrow frame to help in turns, and the broad V-twin powerband and clean styling suit many riders. All Sportster tanks are finished by hand. It’s an affordable, beginner-friendly Sportster, aimed at riders who want the most accessible Harley. The 2013 US price was $8,099.
Power comes from the air-cooled 883cc Evolution engine, the “Blockhead” first bolted into a Harley in 1984, with a silver powder-coated engine and polished covers. Specs are a 76.2mm x 96.8mm bore and stroke and an 8.9:1 compression ratio, fed by Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection. Torque is about 55 lb-ft (about 74.6 Nm) at 3,500 rpm. Final drive is by belt with a chain primary and a 5-speed gearbox.
The front fork is a 39mm Showa with a 120/70-ZR18 tire, and the rear is a 150/60-17. A single 292mm front disc with a dual-piston caliper and a rear disc with a single piston stop the bike. Coil-over shocks have preload adjustment, and rake is about 31.1 degrees. Confirmed figures list a dry weight of about 551 lbs (251 kg), a wet weight of about 571 lbs and a wheelbase of about 1,500mm. Seat height is quoted from 25.5 inches laden to about 27 inches unladen.
This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a Sportster SuperLow XL883L running the way it was built to.
