BMW C 650 GT (2013-2015): The Maxi-Scooter with a 647cc Parallel Twin, ABS and an Electric Windscreen
BMW’s C 650 GT is a touring-focused maxi-scooter, launched in Europe in 2012 and in the US for the 2013 model year. It sits alongside the sportier C 600 Sport, and BMW says the two carry the unique design language of BMW Motorrad. The GT has a higher handlebar, a larger and more comfortable seat with an adjustable rider backrest and footboards for the passenger. It also has a larger windscreen that’s electrically adjustable over 10 cm for more protection from wind and weather. BMW Motorrad ABS is standard (with an on/off function), and the bike has two glove boxes and a large under-seat compartment. For 2015 BMW updated the CVT for better acceleration in traffic and a higher top speed. The claimed top speed is about 108 mph.
The engine is an all-new BMW Motorrad 647cc liquid-cooled, four-valve parallel twin with a 79mm bore, a 66mm stroke and an 11.6:1 compression ratio. BMW’s BMS-E engine management and a 38mm throttle valve feed it, and it runs on regular 95-RON unleaded fuel. Power is 60 hp (44 kW) at 7,500 rpm and torque is 66 Nm (49 lb-ft) at 6,000 rpm. The drive is a CVT with a centrifugal clutch and an enclosed chain-in-oil-bath final drive, with electric starting.
The brakes are twin 270mm front discs with two-piston calipers and a single 270mm rear disc. The tires are a 120/70R15 front and a 160/60R15 rear. The GT is about 2,218mm (87.3 inches) long and 916mm (36 inches) wide, with a 1,591mm (62.6-inch) wheelbase. The seat height was 780mm at launch, and some later listings show 805mm.
The fuel tank holds 16 litres (4.2 US gallons), with about a 4-litre reserve. The bike is rated at about 261 kg (575 lbs) wet, and other sources list about 241 kg (531 lbs) for the lighter dry figure.
This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a BMW C 650 GT running the way it was built to.
