Electra Glide Standard FLHT (2008): The Genuine Entry Point Into Harley's Touring Range, With Hard-Shell Bags and Cruise Control Standard From the Factory
This 2008 model year carried the same real upgrades Harley applied across the whole Touring lineup that year: a Brembo braking system with dual front discs, a larger six-gallon fuel tank, Electronic Throttle Control, and a new Isolated Drive System — genuine mechanical refinement layered onto the most affordable configuration in the range.
Power comes from the air-cooled Twin Cam 96, a 1,584cc V-twin, pushrod-operated overhead valves with hydraulic self-adjusting lifters, a 95.3mm x 111.3mm bore and stroke, and a 9.2:1 compression ratio, fed by Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI), delivering a claimed 92 lb-ft (125.5 Nm) of torque at 3,500 rpm through a 6-speed Cruise Drive manual transmission with belt final drive and fly-by-wire throttle and idle control.
Harley's own factory copy confirms genuinely strong standard equipment for the entry-level Touring trim: a large detachable windshield, auxiliary passing lights, hard-shell saddlebags, electronic cruise control, and the 40-watt Advanced Audio System by Harman/Kardon — all included as standard rather than optional extras, a real value proposition for buyers wanting genuine touring capability without stepping up to the pricier Classic or Ultra trims. Standard styling included blackwall tires, black 9-spoke cast-aluminium wheels, and a bat-wing, fork-mounted fairing.
Confirmed factory dimensions list a 93.7-inch length, a 27.3-inch laden seat height (30.7 inches unladen), 5.1 inches of ground clearance, a 26-degree rake with 6.2 inches of trail, and a 63.5-inch wheelbase, riding on MT90B16 front and MU85B16 rear Dunlop tires. Dry weight sits at 743 lbs (780 lbs in running order), with a 6-gallon fuel tank. 2008 US pricing started at $16,545, the most affordable model in Harley's whole Touring lineup that year.
This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2008 Electra Glide Standard FLHT running the way it was built to.
